What do you do when you see farmers struggling with the massive welfare issues of their animals, financial losses, and severe mental stress on all involved caused by the crippling effects of foot-and-mouth disease; withmany facing the loss of their entire livelihoods – some that have been going for generations? If you’re Dr. Robbie McFarlane, a veterinarian from the Eastern Cape and a man with compassion and a heart for our farmers, you run 50 km. You do this even if running does not come naturally to you, and you consider yourself an overweight husband and a dad with some lower back issues, and your nickname at varsity was pig (and not because you had twinkle toes). You do this to raise funds to help our farmers even if 50 km is the furthest distance you’ve ever attempted to run. Dr. Robbie helped and so can you! Dr. Robbie successfully completed the 50 km Addo Elephant Trail Run on the weekend of 25–28 March and he did this to raise funds for our farmers. So many people have already supported this effort by donating, sharing, and by giving encouragement – their generosity has already made a real impact.
