in South Africa at pricing that improves project viability, include: • Hybrid inverters for business and industry include options for 50 kW, 60 kW, 80 kW, 100 kW, 125 kW, 150 kW, 250 kW, and 500 kW that can also be connected in parallel to meet power supply requirements up to 3 MW (extended warranties for 10 years or 15 years for specific products). • Air or liquid cooled lithium batteries in outdoor rated cabinets or containers with integrated fire suppression that are modular and can be scaled up to 6 MWh (extended warranties for 10 years or 15 years for specific products). • Dual glass solar panels with bi-facial power generation capability with efficiencies above 24% in the range of 640 W to 720 W (product warranties for 15 years and performance warranties for 30 years for specific products). • 3D simulation software for solar PV with energy storage is continuously improving and Ordiphase is able to incorporate advanced performance modelling using data from existing installations. Consolidating Eskom transformers In many instances a number of Eskom transformers are spread out across the farm. Depending on the size of transformer, the specific tariff structure, and distance, it could be possible to achieve significant savings by consolidating transformers. That involves connecting the loads from one transformer to that of another transformer by running an appropriate cable between the two and cancelling one of the Eskom connections. The electricity supply is then complemented with an off-grid solar PV and energy storage solution, with savings in fixed fees from the cancelled Eskom connection supplementing savings from solar power. Note that Eskom registration is not required for an off-grid configuration. Most Eskom tariffs include a fixed fee that add up expenses even when no energy is used. Examples of approved 2026/2027 rural tariffs (excl. VAT) include: • Land rate: Service and admin/network capacity/ generation capacity charges per day add up to R6 556,81 (31 days). Energy usage fee: R3,104 per kWh • Nightsave Rural: (<300 km, <500 V, 200 kVA transformer with 150 kVA utilised demand) high demand season (Jun–Aug) – Service and admin/energy demand and network capacity/generation capacity charges per day/per kVA add up to R78 429,90 (31 days). Energy usage fee: R2,44 per kWh. Low demand season (Sep–May) – Service and admin/energy demand and network capacity/generation capacity charges per day/per kVA add up to R27 477,90 (31 days). Energy usage fee: R2,38 per kWh. • Ruraflex: (<300 km, <500 V, 200 kVA transformer with 150 kVA utilised demand, TOU) high demand season (Jun–Aug) – Service and admin/energy demand and network capacity/generation capacity charges per day/per kVA add up to R11 835,90 (31 days). Energy usage fee: peak hours – R8,24 per kWh; standard hours – R2,65 per kWh; off-peak hours – R2,02 per kWh. Low demand season (Sep–May) – Service and admin/energy demand and network capacity/generation capacity charges per day/per kVA add up to R11 835,90 (31 days). Energy usage fee: peak hours – R3,88 per kWh; standard hours – R2,52 per kWh; off-peak hours – R2,02 per kWh.
